Friday Faves

One//Lilly for Target
I know that everyone across the blogosphere is posting about this. It's our two favorite brands come together! I love Lilly, but I can't really afford her clothing just her accessories. So you can bet that I'm going to be stocking up on some of her shift dresses from Target! I'm so excited for this release!

Two//30 Day Challenges
If you follow me on Pinterest, you may have noticed I've started pinning 30 day challenges. Gyms make me so uncomfortable! I love 30 day challenges because most of them you can do at home, and they really do give you a good workout!

Three//Clinique Free Gift
Whenever Macy's has these deals I go for them. With a $27 Clinique Purchase at Macy's you'll receive a free 7-piece gift! It's so worth it. Check it out here

I'm Officially a Cookie!

Just this past week I got accepted into the Martha Cook building at University of Michigan and received a room! I can't even describe how lucky I feel. When I toured UMich, my tour guide pointed this residence hall out specifically because of its long history. It was one of the deciding factors for me between UMich and Michigan State. Martha Cook has many traditions including Friday afternoon teas and formal dinners, as well as slightly stricter rules than your average residence hall, such as curfews for male visitors.

I will be living in a single suite overlooking the gardens. What could be better? Maybe the fact that Martha Cook is close to both the chemistry and physics buildings, right near the center of campus, AND located in beautiful downtown Ann Arbor.

Like I said, I feel unbelievably lucky; not only did I get into the school of my dreams but I also will be a resident of, what I believe to be, the most beautiful residence halls at UMich! I'm already working on dorm shopping (I know, too early)!

Would you ever chose to be live in an all-female residence hall? Let me know in the comments below!

Motivated Monday

I survived a Calc test at 6:45 this morning, so my week has started off on the right foot! All I have left for this week is to make it through my Chem test on Thursday! This weekend was a bit on the hectic side (work, nephew was over, and studying) so here are the things that are motivating me this week!
Motivated Monday

  1. I am so behind on cleaning and I have a really hard time focusing in a dirty room/house. I love cleaning, so I don't mind putting aside some time today to make my environment a little more comfortable!
  2. I STILL haven't done my taxes! Lame excuse, but I'm so tired of dealing with money when I get home from work that I've been putting it off. But not this week! I'll just procrastinate until Friday.
  3. So the source behind all my chaos is the absence of a master list. I have so much to do, but I haven't written it down in one place. So first things first, I need to list all the paperwork, emails, cards, whatever that I need to send off so I can get a sense of where I'm at.
If only my life were organized, even for just a day. My motivation this week is to get my semi-chaotic life back together, clean up, and start moving forward!

How to you get back to organized? Let me know in the comments below!

Welcoming Spring

Tomorrow is the first official day of spring! The temperature has slowly been creeping up outside and I saw that my crocus flowers are blooming in the flower bed! Now I can finally start putting together spring outfits. I can't wait! Here are some styles I'm hunting down for Spring '15.

Welcoming Spring

I just bought a kate spade new york crossbody bag from TJMaxx last weekend. It's this shade of pink, and just the right size to take on a walk downtown or a quick run to the store!
Blazers are nice because it really isn't quite warm enough to go bare-shouldered yet. I like this striped one, I think it would pair nicely with a bright colored blouse or dress.
I'm so excited that loafers are in this season! They're very comfy. The colors on these ones are perfect: neutral with a pop of color along the edge.
Chiffon mini skirts are wonderful because they are elegant yet versatile. Wear them to school with a t-shirt tucked and flats, or pair with a flowy blouse and stilettos for a date!
Scalloped edges are so adorable. I love them on purses, shoes, shorts, blouses, skirts, and, of course, dresses! They look especially classy on this light pink dress!

What are your favorite spring styles? What would you suggest pairing with my spring picks? I always love hearing about your personal style, so let me know in the comments below!

Spring Break Reading List

                                 Spring Break Reading List

I don't have much time for leisurely reading anymore, so when I do get a chance to read I can't stop! I plan on spending a lot of time reading during spring break. So here's my list of books I want to read! In reality I will probably only get through one or two at most, but maybe I'll try to pace myself and keep reading once break is over.

  1. Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee: This will be published in July, but I might go ahead and pre-order it. Fun Fact: though it is the sequel to "To Kill a Mockingbird", it was actually written before! I don't know about any of you, but I truly enjoyed reading "To Kill a Mockingbird" in high school! I am really excited about the this release!
  2. Me Before You by Jojo Moyes: I'm not really sure what this book is about, but from what I've heard it's a romance. It seems to be pretty popular, and I'm curious about what all the buzz is about!
  3. The Shining by Stephen King: I know, it's a little dark to be reading during my break. I've been working on this book for a couple months now, but I had to stop because the only time I had to read it was right before bed, and then I would seriously get nightmares! I've never watched the movie so that makes this book way more scarier. My plan of action is to finish reading this during the bright sunny days so maybe it won't freak me out so much (I'm terrible with scary movies and books!).
  4. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella: I have seen this movie only a million times now and it's still one of my favorites. It's about time that I read the book.
  5. Paper Towns by John Green: I confess, I have never read a John Green book. But all I hear are good things about them. So I'm going to try to read this book by him before the movie comes out in July!
For a longer list of books I have read/am reading/want to read, follow me on Goodreads!

What books are on your reading list? Have you read any of the ones I listed above? Let me know in the comments below!

Motivated Monday

Where did my weekend go?? Oh yeah. Work. I'm starting this week off a little more sluggish than usual because I am absolutely exhausted. This week my goals are simple: just get through my to-do lists. The only exciting part of my week (that I know of yet) will be Thursday night. I applied to an all female resident hall called Martha Cook and the room drawing is Thursday night! Except I can't go because I have physics lab. But I still get to find out if I get a room there and, if I do get in, who my roommate will be! Motivation is sort of an overstatement, so here's what  I'm doing to survive this week.

Friday Faves

One//Super Pi Day

Saturday is Super Pi Day: 3.1415! All week my calculus instructor has been wearing Pi shirts. Read up on the history of Pi here. It's actually pretty interesting!

I'm going to go see Cinderella tonight with my mother and I'm so excited! So far it has gotten great ratings. Not to mention it stars Lily James, only one of the most beautiful actresses in my opinion (love her in Downton Abbey!) as Cinderella.

Three//Bath & Body Works Let's go to Hawaii!

Let's go to Hawaii!

I got the flyer on this new collection this week, and I can't wait to stop in at my local Bath&BodyWorks to stock up on some of these summer scents! I love the smell of coconut especially.

I don't believe I've expressed how much I love Audrey Hepburn yet in a post. There are many things I admire about her, but today I want to talk about her movies. Whenever I'm having a terrible day, I turn towards an Audrey Hepburn film. Her films take me to a different world, in a different time. Not all her films end in the perfect happy ending (I never found the end of Roman Holiday very happy). But her films do remind you what's important in life: friendship, love, believing in yourself. So if you're looking for a timeless chick flick this weekend, I recommend anything starring the great Audrey Hepburn.

My favorite Audrey films:

  • Breakfast at Tiffany's
  • Sabrina
  • Roman Holiday
  • My Fair Lady
  • Wait Until Dark
What's your favorite Audrey film? Let me know in the comments below!

Pier 1 Imports: for your dorm

Pier 1 Imports: for your dorm

Pier 1 Imports shag area rug / Pier 1 Imports food storage container / Pier 1 Imports drinkware / Pier 1 Imports throw pillow / Pier 1 Imports home fragrance

I work at Pier 1 Imports and I love it! The vibrant warm colors and unique pieces are so much fun. A lot of the pieces are meant for homes instead of dorms, so I put together some of the items I've found that I plan on taking with me to my dorm. The shaggy throw pillow is a must. It is so soft. No, seriously guys. Go to your local Pier right now and feel that pillow. So of course I need the rug to go with it! Tiki Sunrise is a new scent. Right now I have the room spray and it brightens my mood with its citrus-y scent! I love this tea cup because it's got a very cute print and it's actually a lot bigger than you'd think. The tea tin is great because I have all my loose tea still in the Teavana bags, so it's time I go it a home.

Do you shop at Pier 1 Imports? What are some of your items? Let me know in the comments below!

Motivated Monday, #1

Welcome to the first installment of my new series: Motivated Monday! The point of this is to let all of my wonderful readers know what my plans are for the week. As I go through the week, I tend to drop my plans, so I'm hoping this will help me stay motivated throughout the week. It also gives me a chance to share a bit about myself with you, and hopefully lets you share some of the exciting plans you have planned for the week with me in the comments section! So here's my week:

Monday: Since I have my Calc 2 test in the morning, tonight is dedicated to studying! I've done very poorly on my last two tests (scraping by with Cs), so I'm nervous about this one. Wish me luck!
Blog post: Motivated Monday

Tuesday: This is my favorite day of the week because I get through two of my classes by 10 AM. After my test I plan to hit the gym to unwind, and then clean out my car now that it's finally warm enough to be in the garage for 10 minutes without a coat on.
Blog post: Favorite Items from Pier 1 Imports

Wednesday: I get to sleep in til 6 AM because Calc is cancelled! Talk about beauty sleep! Unfortunately, this is another study day since my Physics 2 test is on Thursday.
Blog post: Wonderful Wednesday (another new series)

Thursday: And this is my least favorite day of the week. They're my longest and I'm exhausted from the last three days. As a pick-me-up I'll hit the gym again! Then I'll go ace that test (yeah, right). Usually I am out of steam on Thursday nights so I don't go out.
Blog post: For the love of Lilly

Friday: Before our chem lab, my friend and I are going to Brownstone Coffee House in Battle Creek. We haven't been there before, so I'll let you know how it is! After that is my lab (yay!). Since Friday is supposed to be warm, nearly 50 degrees, I'm going to pull out my tub full of spring/summer clothing and start packing away my heavy winter clothes.
Blog post:Friday Faves

Saturday: I start the day off working at Pier (always a good start to my day), then I'm going shoppingggg! I have some coupons that expire at Ulta and Victoria's Secret soon so I'm going to try to stay focused. Although maybe since I'm there I should stop at TJMaxx.....See the problem? It'll be dangerous. Also, let's not forget that this is Super Pi Day 3.1415, so I suppose I should devote some time to Calc homework (approx. 3.1415 seconds maybe).
Blog post:TBD

Sunday: Again, I start my day off working at Pier. Usually on Sundays my sister comes over for dinner with my nephew, so I have to work all my homework that I've procrastinated on in during his naps (he's 16 months). Not to mention, I have to have it all done by the time the two shows I'm addicted to come on, Once Upon A Time @ 8 PM on ABC and Last Man on Earth @ 9:30 PM on Fox!
Blog Post: Nope, Rest day!

So that's my week in so many words! Quite honestly, Monday through Thursday I'm just a boring college student. By the time I get through classes for the day I'm worn out! I don't get crazy on the weekends, but as the weather ramps up I'll have more adventures to inform you on.

What are your plans for the week? Do you have anything exciting coming up? Share with me in the comments below!

I'm trying to get back to going to the gym on a regular basis. I always feel awesome after I workout on the elliptical for half an hour or (attempt) to lift weights! And the gym at school is free to use, so no membership fees! Here are some of my favorite items when I go to the gym.

What is your favorite gym gear? How do you stay motivated? Let me know in the comments below!

The College Girl's Guide to: Transferring Colleges

In my senior year of high school I got accepted into 3 universities; and I turned down all three. I didn't have the finances to attend a university for 4 years. Therefore, I enrolled at my local community college. At first I was embarrassed, worried that others would think I was attending community college because I wasn't smart enough to get into a university. This past semester has changed my mind about community college though. Many of the students are attending for the same reason that I am: money. And like me, they are ready to invest the money into a four-year university.

It took me only 1 semester to decide that I want to go into a STEM field (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). I want to go into chemistry, or go even more specific by getting a degree in environmental engineering. This was one of the first criteria that helped me narrow down my college search.

I already knew that I wanted to go to school in Michigan. I want to be close enough to visit my family during long weekends, but far enough away that I feel a sense of independence. Only three public universities in Michigan offered a degree in Environmental Engineering: Michigan State University, University of Michigan, and Michigan Tech. I immediately had to cross Michigan Tech off my list because I knew, realistically, I could not stand to live in that cold of a region, not to mention it was too far out of my budget.

I scheduled campus tours of both to get a feel of how I would fit in to each school. I found that the UMich has an enthusiastic, academically driven student body and MSU has an overwhelming amount of school spirit. Overall I felt I fit into UMich better due to their research opportunities and highly esteemed College of Engineering.

So let's get to the point: What does it take to transfer colleges?

  1. Narrow down your list of potential colleges. I recommend no more than 3 colleges: your dream college, a college you feel confident you can get into, and a college with rolling admission in case neither of the first two work out. Application fees are expensive so think strategically at this point.
  2. Start the application. Start with just the basic information. The first step is the hardest! This way you can scope out the essays and other requirements for your application process as well.
  3. Schedule a campus tour. I cannot stress how important this is. Just because a school looks amazing in the brochure, you never really know until you visit! Often at these tours you receive valuable information that will give you a foot up on the application process.
  4. Ask for recommendations. Most college applications will require a recommendation. Ask an instructor who teaches classes that are relevant to your major or an adviser you've gotten to know well. Don't forget to thank your recommenders as well!
  5. Don't be afraid to contact the admissions office. Often transfer students require different documents than freshman applicants. If you are unsure of what is required from you, send an email or pick up the phone. They're there to help you.
  6. Write a strong essay. It doesn't matter if you earned an A in Freshman Composition if you can't put together a comprehensive and unique essay. This is your chance to give more than a pull-down menu answer, so own it! Let them know what you will bring to campus.
  7. Have you sent all your supporting documents? Double check that check list. Make sure all your supporting documents are in the mail at least two weeks before the deadline.
  8. The early bird gets the worm. If you know where you want to apply, don't wait.
  9. Do. Not. Stress. Once you've hit that submit button, stop stressing. You've done the best you can, it's now up the admissions office. Enjoy the rest of your semester, spend some time applying for scholarships, and you'll get your admission letter (or email) in no time! Be sure to check you application status (many schools have a site in which you can track your application status) at least once a week, as this will be where many admissions offices will post any additional information they require or even your admission decision.
  10. Time to celebrate! If you got into your first choice college, feel free to brag on social media and share with everyone your exciting news! If your first choice declined you, but your second choice accepted you, it's still time to celebrate! Remember, second-choice does not mean second rate.
I'm excited to be transferring, especially to University of Michigan! While I regret that I haven't had the traditional college experience, I feel confident in my academic abilities and am ready to move on to a bigger school.

Are any of my readers transfer students or preparing to transfer? How did you adjust to a new school? What are your worries? Leave me a comment below!
